My story
Welcome and thank you for stopping by! I’m Kristine, the heart and hands behind K1P1 knits. Born in Latvia and rooted in Ireland for over 16 years, I draw inspiration from the natural world around me and the rich traditions of both places I call home. My journey with craft began long before I knew it would shape my future.
I’ve been drawn to craft and nature for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I spent hours by the river, picking up pebbles, admiring their shapes and textures, and stuffing them into my pockets like treasures. At home, I’d sit under my great-grandma’s Singer sewing machine, playing with fabric scraps and sifting through buttons in a Big Blue Button tin. She crocheted; my grandma knit. I watched their hands create something from nothing, and even then, it felt like magic.
Life eventually took me in a different direction—tech. But I’ve always looked for ways to stay connected to my roots. I wanted to have wearable clothing and accessory pieces that reflected the simplicity and beauty of nature while carrying the charm of traditional craftsmanship. When I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I decided to make them myself.
My designs are inspired by a mix of Latvian and Irish craft traditions. Think linen thread bracelet in herringbone pattern, reflecting the colours and texture of sand, and adorning it, an encased pebble. Or fingerless gloves knitted with soft Donegal wool, embellished with Latvian motifs. Every piece reflects my love for sustainability, using fairly and consciously sourced materials, supporting local producers, and minimising waste wherever possible.
Crafting each piece is slow, mindful work, but I love every stitch. Seeing someone wear something I’ve made feels like sharing a piece of my story with the world. It’s about more than just creating accessories—it’s about making meaningful, heirloom-quality items that connect people to the natural world and their own stories.
Thank you for stopping by. If my work resonates with you, I’d love for you to join me on this creative journey. Together, we can celebrate tradition, nature, and the joy of handmade treasures.
